Hana Recipes & Cooking Tips
Foursquare Day, 4/16 and Hana has Treats to Giveaway!
Friday, April 16, 2010 is Foursquare Day!
We love how you guys have embraced foursquare… our check ins have doubled the last month.
@hanajapanese fans just KNOW- we love it when you get in on the action online. so come in, show your waiter your check-in, and we’ll “swarm” you with goodies from the kitchen you’ve NEVER HAD BEFORE. They’re secret off-menu chef treats that we won’t have again. That’s right… get it tomorrow, buzzy bees, or you’re gonna miss the honey. And why wouldn’t you come in on a Friday with all the fresh fish for the weekend?
During lunch, we’ll also do a random $50 gift certificate giveaway to one lucky @foursquare addict.
As always, our mayor will dine on one sashimi order they’d like, whatever they’d like, on the house. Take this opportunity to try and unseat Mike…. frankly, we think he’s getting a little bit too comfortable these days.
While the cat’s away…
So, we appreciate your efforts- Hana fans (we call them Hanacores) have been flocking the last week, and we’re getting tons of foursquare checkins, but no one can seem to unseat Mike. But-
Mike’s away this week. In France, poor guy.
So, while he’s gone, we want to give you the chance you’ve been missing. The most checkins this week will will a dinner for 2, on Hana. But not just ANY dinner. This is an off-menu, kitchen AND sushi dinner, created by Kaz and Rick, just for you. What, wait?
The person who checks in the most between Tuesday lunch and Sunday dinner this week will win a dinner for two at Hana of selections by Kaz and Rick.
Le Rules:
1. If you don’t tweet it, it doesn’t count. We need a way to track who checks in, so your checkins MUST be tweeted.
2. You must purchase something each visit you check in for it to count. One check in per meal.
3. The dinner is for 2, it will have to be on an evening at Kaz and Rick’s discretion, and dishes will be their selections. (We’re cool so of course we’ll avoid anything you say will require you need an epi-pen)
4. No taunting Mike. Even the mayor has to take vacation.
It’s Good to Be Mayor
Who’s this dude? THE COMPETITION. This is Mike. Mike loves Hana more than most, and has the check ins to prove it. Which is why he’s the Mayor of Hana, but we suspect, not for long. Why?
We love you guys, and we want you to know it. Feel the fish love. So, for the near future, the mayor of Hana will always receive a free order of sashimi. What? #crazysushiladiessaywhat? FREE sashimi?
“I know it sounds crazy, but no restrictions. If its toro, so be it. If anyone comes in more than Mick it’s worth it!!” explains Lori Hashimoto.
That’s one order of sashimi per visit, your choice, or let Koji-san decide for you. How do you check in? When you’re at Hana, log into Foursquare to check in, or just visit our homepage…. there’s a link right there. All we ask is that you be cool and only check in when you’re actually had something off the menu.
More goodness coming your way, so be sure to check in often and follow us on twitter! Let the turf wars begin.
Okonomiyaki, Chu Toro and my favorite – Kobe Beef
Exciting new things added to our specials boards this week – for sure! Can you say Okonomiyaki, Chu Toro and my favorite – Kobe Beef: as sushi, sashimi and charcoaled in front of you at your table! Don’t miss out, because these will seriously only be offered for a limited time.
As for the Okonomiyaki, I know some folks have been asking for a while. For those who don’t know what it is, here’s a quick Wikipedia description – “A Japanese savoury pancake containing a variety of ingredients”. And we’re not talking the Aunt Jemima kind!
Are you hardcore?
Our fans are… special. They wait for our tweets each day and then flock for the sushi. They start fan groups. When one of them spies us bringing in a full size bluefin tuna to butcher on the sushi counter, cell phones all over town light up until there’s a crowd here like a circus.
Like I said, special. So we’d like to acknowledge that kind of crazy by branding you a Hanacore. Feel free to post this sucker to your blog or site- paint it on the side of your car, or hey- see what your tattoo artist can do with it.
We’ll be paying special attention to these suckers, and we’ll be watching our Hanacores. Who knows what surprises may come their way?
The Right to Vote…. for Sushi.

It’s Called Rainbow Carpaccio…
We rolled it out Friday just to see, and since then it’s become a wild hit! It’s called Rainbow Carpaccio, and I promise you’ll lick the plate clean. Thin slices of Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail and Ocean Sea Bass are accompanied by a cucumber lemon relish, and garnished with light oil and small bits of lemon. It’s so good, that most customers have been saving the relish to use when their sushi hits the table!
Also freshly in: Giant Crab, Wild Tasman Salmon, Red Sea Crab, Golden Tai and Walu. Let yourself try something new this week!
Are you on our email list yet? Because everyone who is got a little something from the sushi angels this week. What are you waiting for? Sign up on our homepage today!
The freshest fish in town. Hands down.
Phoenix is one of those weird sushi anomalies. Desert as far as the eye can see, and more sushi joints than you can shake a stick at. Hey, we eat at some of ‘em too.
We know every time you crave some spicy tuna, you have choices for where to go. So every week we sit and ponder what new, interesting, fresh as air fish we can slice, dice and slide onto your plate.
We hope you love it, and we hope you know we love you. Hana customers are hard core, and rock our world.
Fresh Lobster Nigiri & Sashimi
